weird crashing... started suddenly - 29/08/2002 17:57

So I'm just driving along listening to my latin/cuban playlist, and right in the middle of a particularly soulful Harry Belafonte song the player just stopped.
Totally frozen.
This has never happened before. I popped it out and put it back in, it rebooted and started playing the song again. It got the the end of the song, and then crashed going to the next song.
I rebooted again, this time skipping ahead a few songs. It played for about 30 seconds and then crashed once more.
I rebooted again.
Skipped a few more songs, and let it play. It got to the end of the song ok and then went to the next song. It played it ok but the screen and buttons were frozen at the end of the previous song. And after about 20 seconds of this song, it crashed again.

Anybody have any idea what the hell is going on?
I have made no changes, except Beta 13 a few weeks ago.
I listen to it every day, and this is the first this has happened.

I brought it in the house (happens on AC power too) and Im reflashing beta 13 and HJ 292 right now to see if that will help.

Im very puzzled. Anybody have any clue?

Cheers,
Z~

Reflashing the new beta didnt help.
Now I can get it to crash just by clicking to the next song in the playlist.
Is the playlist corrupted?
How can I get the serial output?

Hmm....
I think I may have figured it out.
I had set the visuals to auto change at each track, but I wasnt using the visuals, only the info-track setting.
I turned Auto Change visuals to off, and it seems to have stopped crashing.
Ill still keep it under observation though.

Having the visuals on auto shouldn't make it crash....But then again I'm using beta 11.

In reply to:

I normally run with visuals set to change on track change, and I've never had this problem when using info: track (or any other info mode), neither in 2.0b11 nor in 2.0b13. So it might not be the (only) cause for your problem.

Greetings!

I am surprised you haven't upgraded to b13. Any particular reason for the back release?

ISTR seeing this happen if the player was having trouble spinning up the drives to refill the buffer. But I was also getting periodic "No HD found" messages during boot. Check your IDE cable is seated correctly on the motherboard.

No particular reason. I just never got around to it, and it's my understanding that beta 13 is mainly bug fixes, right? I haven't had any problems so I just wasn't motivated to upgrade. Are there any new features on beta 13?

Mostly bug fixes. There is a new "enqueue" search mode. Some other tweaks. Check out the release notes.

I like the new floordancers. The pole dancer is the best one in my mind
