the movie Ed Wood was supposed to come out today on DVD, but for the second time, it was delayed. Has anyone seen any places that might be selling it still? I've tried most stores, but none of them had it (they were instructed to send it back.)

I don't understand why a store would be told to send back copies of a DVD unless it was defective. I don't get it?

Nobody knows for sure...but people are guessing that they didn't get clearance for something in time for the release date.

Oh, like mechanical rights for one of the pieces of music on the soundtrack or something. Okay, that makes sense.

Argh, makes me want to get one of those copies, because they'll probably pull it and replace the music with something else, which always sounds *wrong* when they do that. I remember seeing a few movies from the 80's that had that done, and it's this weird itch you get in the back of your brain while you're watching the movie, going "wait... that's not the right song..."

Yeah, there's still copies in some stores. Try your local Blockbuster, supposedly some people have still been able to get copies from them and price-matched Best Buy's $19.99 price tag. Apparently the exact same thing happened on the first DVD release of the movie.

There's all kinds of speculation going around. Some people think it's because they want to wait for a tie-in with the DVD release of Big Fish.

It's pissing me off. I have literally been waiting for months for February 3rd to come around. Today was going to be (according to dvdtalk.com) the release of Kill Bill and NewsRadio. Now both are puched back at least 3 or 4 months. Now the only thing I'm interested in is Lost in Translation, although I'm sure my friend will still want the first In Living Color release.

On the NewsRadio front, supposedly Sony was going to release a plain-jane set of DVDs, but Paul Simms heard about it and convinced them to include extras. The reason it's being pushed back is so that they can get those extras put it. Given the choice between no extras and now or extras and later ... I choose couch!!!

Yeah, I knew why, I just want it NOW!! Besides, why the hell didn't he know about it in the first place? Did he think his commentary track was going to magically appear on the set or something? I'd think he'd be a little more in tune with what was going on than that.

Oh, and the best TV show DVD release in history is going to be the Freaks and Geeks box set. There are so many extras on that it isn't funny, and most of them have tons of fan involvement. I think there are several fan commentary tracks, as a matter of fact. There's also a "yearbook" that includes pictures that fans send in, and my friends and I are going to be included! We have a band called 8th Grade Dance, and we sent them a picture we took for flyers for one of our shows. They're using it! Very cool.

?

Why do you assume that he even knew it was going to be released? I'm sure that Sony owns the property outright. They don't need his permission to release it. Thank Sony for not telling him that they wanted their profits now rather than later.

I'll have to check out the F&G, though.

I'm not saying he would have to have his stamp of approval on it or anything. I just figure that he, more than anyone, would be "in tune" with what was going on with the show. I mean, why would the two of us know about its release and not the creator of the whole show? The information is readily available, and you can see long before-hand exactly what is going to be included on these things. That's all.

Who knows, maybe things got caught up much earlier, and we only recently got the news that it would be delayed. I do wish that there were a new planned release date for it. Amazon has a date sometime in 2010

According to this source, he wasn't informed due to a ``clerical error''.

Ah, that's fine then. Oh well, I'll just have to go back and watch the low-quality video files I have on my machine. I've got all but the first half of season 5

And February 3rd turned out to be an excellent DVD day for me. I finally got around to spending the generous Best Buy gift cards I received for Christmas. I came away with:

Alien
Aliens
The Craft
Lost in Translation
Miller's Crossing
PCU
Resident Evil
Sneakers

Yeah, I know, some of those are pretty cheesey, but I like them. The Alien DVDs are wonderful because they're beautiful 2 disc releases, and now I don't have to buy the horrible 3rd and 4th movies in a set. By the way, these DVDs have the numbers "10" and "11" on the spines of the cases for Alien and Aliena, respectively. I assume Fox is doing some sort of collection. Does anyone have information on this?

By the way, I'm finally filling out my Coen brothers collection. I went on a marathon and saw all their movies at once two years ago. The best movie watching of my life. Everyone has to see Barton Fink.

I still really like Alien3. I'm not too sure why people disliked it so much. I like it more than I like Aliens, for that matter. I get bored with the all-action, no plot movies. Resurrection was pure dreck, though. Too bad, since Joss Whedon wrote it.

And I just noticed that they finally released Miller's Crossing on DVD. I'm gonna have to get that one day soon. It's too bad the Coens don't do commentaries.

Weirdo .

I've got the Aliens DVD box set (all 4 movies) and the one thing that irritates me: the Aliens disc is the director's cut version. There's a reason that those scenes were left on the cutting room floor the first time round: they're dreck. At least give me a DVD with the option of not showing them.

The new Alien Quintology has a directors cut of all 4 movies. It also, on a seperate disc for each, has the original movies.

Wish I would have known they were going to release them like that before I bought the box set. Guess I'll sell the ones I have now at work.

Seems like a second program without the deleted scenes should have been easy to do.

It's been said many times that Resurrection didn't turn out as Joss intended; even by Joss himself. I remember reading an interview along those lines, but I can't seem to find a link to it at the moment.

Anyway, a side note, here are the scripts for Resurrection and Aliens.

Cool. Yeah, Joss always seems to have problems with movie scripts he's credited for. I don't know if his complaints are cop-outs or if they're legitimate complaints. I can see how it could be possible for his writing style to not be interpreted well if he's not there explaining how it's meant.

Well I liked Alien3 more than Aliens too, but probably not for an objective reason. I was pretty young when the first two movies came out so I didn't get into the series until the third movie. I did watch them in order, but Alien3 really made the lasting impression, I suppose.

And I never made it through Ressurection.

I got it off ebay. It seems legit although it's from Hong Kong and is Region 0. It has DD5.1, but it's the worst conversion I have ever heard. It's painful to watch in 5.1.

This is the same guy I bought it from:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3383650892&category=2294

He sends it via postal mail from Hong Kong. It took like a month to get to me for some reason.

I was going to buy the Star Wars Trilolgy DVDs that way...however, I heard that they were going to release them in September (supposedly,(there is a big announcement next week.) It sounds like it is legit. I just wonder if they are going to include the unaltered original versions as well.

I have one HK DVD: the pilot episode of Twin Peaks, which isn't available in the US due to some licensing problems. It's not in the DVD set of the first season and every other release is the movie-ized version. The one from HK is just the episode.

There's a fifth Alien movie!?!?

I wouldn't bother with the Quadrilogy even if I had the $120 to spend. I dislike the 4th film so much that I've been waiting until now to buy the first two. For about 4 years, if I wanted to get special editions of the first two films I had to get the third and fourth as well. I'm not sure what I didn't like about the 3rd. It may be the severely depressing nature of it. Maybe I just didn't like that Bishop died I still can't believe I saw Resurrection in the theaters, though. What a terrible film.

And Bitt, I agree that the Coens should do commentaries. Heck, they should at least put more stuff in the DVD. I've got Barton Fink and Miller's Crossing and there's virtually nothing on them. Doesn't really matter, though, because the films themselves are so great. But there's little things I'd like to know about them that would be benefitted by at least a documentary. For example, how many of you knew that the thing with the bird at the end of Barton Fink was merely coincidence? I think that's freaking great! I want to know about things like that!

The TV show I want on DVD more than any other is Millennium. I found out recently that laserdiscs of all three seasons were released in Japan. Apparently, someone went to great lengths and great expense (around $3K) to get 34 DVD-Rs of these episodes. If I had $300 to spend, I'd definitely get them.
