I know this is so simple that the answer has to be somewhere in the FAQ, but I cannot find it.

Is there any way to either dim, or completely turn off the standby LED in car mode? I'm not talking about turning down the standby time, but while the car is running and the player is on. Currently it is very bright and distracting. I do not have the lighted buttons either...

Thanks... I am currently searching for a solution with hijack, etc., but I have a road trip tomorrow and would like to fix this before I leave.

PS: Please feel free to hit me aside the head with a FAQ or BBS link if this has been covered a million times.

There is no feature in the default software for this, but Mark has added features in Hijack which control it.

They are options you place in Config.Ini. I don't know the options off the top of my head, have a scrape 'round the Hijack section of the FAQ and see if it's documented there. If not, it'll be documented in BBS posts somewhere.

Urg... Thanks. I'm digging in the config.ini portion of the FAQ. There is "buttonled_off=n", but that is for the button hack I do not have.

I'll keep digging...

If it's not in the FAQ, then he documented it in a post here on the BBS somewhere. Do a search.

Damn, I can never find this thread, it's here: http://empegbbs.com/ubbthreads/showflat....=true#Post86589

Now, to add some key words so I can find it in the future:
pulse pulsating pulsing led hijack standby blinking blink

Arg... I've been searching like mad, but I guess I failed. Interesting how many words contain the letters "LED".

Quote:
And it's perfectly legal to disable the LED completely with standbyLED_on=0

I just tried this from the linked post. It appears I have different issue altogether. The standby LED is on all the time when in the car. It's on solid from boot-up to standby shutdown. Could this be a fault in how it was installed? Perhaps it's a loose wire in the sled connector?

Thanks for the help guys. I'd really like to get this light disabled.

The sleeve of heat-shrink tubing actually makes a nice difference. Since I did that I haven't been bothered by the led.

You mean if the player is on and playing songs and showing stuff on the display, the LED is still on? That's not the way it's supposed to be. If that's what's happening to you, you've got a bigger problem. RobS will probably have to chime in on this one.

Try also setting standbyLED_off=0

Quote:
[hijack]
standbyLED_on=1 ;; in 1/100ths of a second
standbyLED_off=1000 ;; in 1/100ths of a second

Personally I use...

standbyLED_on=1
standbyLED_off=10000

I remember hearing about this technique. I might have to try it.

On and playing songs, and Off and just sitting in the sled... Solid illuminated LED. This is only while in the car sled. When it's plugged in at home it behaves normally and I was able to turn it off in hijack.

I'll give that a shot. I have to hit the road here soon, but I appreciate the help everyone.

I wonder if you're somehow delivering power over the remote line. Not knowing anything about how it's all connected, I know the remote line is powered by the display power line. Perhaps things are running in reverse?

YES.

If I recall correctly...

An always-on standby LED means that you have wired up some sort of constant 12-volt power connected to the player's amp-remote (blue) wire.

The blue wire is supposed to PROVIDE a signal to the amplifier to turn on. Instead there is power coming from somewhere that is constantly connected to 12 volts and to that blue wire.

Now, I'm not 100 percent certain about what I just told you. But that's my vague recollection.

The way to be sure is to plug the player into the AC adapter indoors and see if you get the same behavior.
