My Empeg car just arrived today. I'll hopefully be installing this thing in my DeLorean the weekend of Feb 22nd. (or perhaps the next weekend).

I'm not very well versed in car audio and I really want to be sure that I do this correctly. This will be the only unit in the car (no radio or cd player). Amp is already installed. Plan on installing front speakers (stock location - they're just missing right now).

If anyone would care to give me a hand, I'd be happy to buy you dinner. Great Mexican places around here.

If you can wait a week, I'll be in the south bay for Consonance the weekend of the 1st, you could just show up at the hotel and we could hack at it in the parking lot.

"Wait a minute, wait a minute, Doc, er... Are you telling me that you put an empeg... into a DeLorean?"

"The way I see it, if you're going to put an entire CD collection into a car, why not do it with some style?"

Of course, when you install the empeg, you're going to have to make a boot logo like the attached graphic.

And do you make the empeg you're main head unit, or do you slave it to the flux capacitor?

Edit: Oops, pardon the download text on the left of the graphic. Just yanked the graphic from another site and didn't edit it.

ROFL, good one.

Hey, I always wondered... How would one repair dents in a DeLorean?

Tony,

Sounds good. That hotel's not far from my place. I took the car in for a clutch replacement the other day. It's expected to be done by the weekend of the 22nd, but could run past. I think the weekend you're in town would be the best bet. How much time will you have?

I'm told that repairing dents in the stainless isn't that difficult. You just need to find someone who knows what they're doing.

And one more general question, when connected to a computer via USB, does the drive need to be plugged into a wall outlet?

Drive?

The drives are not separate. It's a pullout stereo. You take the whole thing out of your dash and take the whole thing into the house. And yes, it needs A/C power, an A/C adapter is included with the unit.

As far as the timing goes, I'll probably have a few hours to spare around midday on Saturday the 2nd. Plan on being there around 11am to early afternoon sometime. I'll try to remember to pack my tools for the Consonance trip. I'll probably be checking into the hotel Friday evening sometime, so call on Friday night and leave a message for me saying when you plant to show up, and I'll just look out for a stainless-steel car around that time.

Why don't you just set the date for the future, then the player will already be installed.

Cuz then he'll end up kissing his mother or something.

Have you guys seen any of the "painted" Delorians? .... sad really. Or the stainless ones that havn't been taken care of? Surprisingly, there are a handleful of them in Dearborn alone.

I thinks some folks get the impression that "stainless" is really stainless. Only true up to a point, especially if you have dings, cracks or other defects. Painted stainless??? Ouch.

Yup, www.delorean.com is for the DeLorean Motor Company, but not the original company that manufactured the car. When the original company went out of business, these guys came in and bought all the extra parts. They're good guys, I know almost everyone there. They now sell parts and restore original DeLoreans to like-new condition to sell. You can find 'em cheaper, but not better.

The creater of the DeLorean (John Z. DeLorean) has a new project.

I don't know if I want to pay that much for it though, funny how it has to do with time...

So what does the dash look like in a Delorean? Do you think we'll need some kind of an install kit or does it already have a DIN-sized hole? Do you have a digital camera, can you take some pictures?

You say it's already got an amplifier, what are the specs of the amplifier?

Also, I'm out of shrink tubing and/or crimp connectors, might be a good idea for you to get some at the local rat shack before heading to the hotel. I should have my tools in the trunk, though.

A stock Delorean has a shaft style stereo by Craig. I have seen numerous photos of Deloreans with DIN stereos. Owning a Delorean has always been a dream of mine. I guess I won't be the first to put an Empeg into one.
