Stolen but recovered MK II with a problem - 26/03/2003 17:36

My MKII was stolen a month ago but recovered (along with two bad lads). They crowbarred the door half off trying to get the stereo (36Gb). They then came back later for the amp and got caught. When I got it back today, the cables were all cut and I duly bridged them with connectors.

I checked first by plugging in to my AC adapter and it all seemed fine (playing Ian Dury Blockheads by coincidence). I think I made a mistake wiring it in because first time, I didn't get any life out of the unit. After checking, I corrected them and it worked, but the display is dead.

My question is - have I fried the display (a capacitor behind the r.h.s is a bit whiffy)?

Can anyone fix it for me - all expenses paid.

Yours,

happy to have his MK II back but selecting tracks like a blind watchmaker <g>

There are fuses on the main circuit board to protect against cabling errors (and burning the house down etc..). One or more has probably blown. If you are proficient with an ohm-meter, you can check these yourself.

Otherwise, several of us here on the BBS know of them and could probe them (and replace blown ones) or help walk you through it. I can do it, but being in Canada (and you likely being elsewhere) makes shipping tricky.

Car support can fix it, but he's in The Netherlands, probably trickier than here, but guaranteed to resolve it. Others ?

Thanks,

The information on riocar.org was useful so at least I know the screen isn't completely gone - it does look like the fuse.

Many thanks,

Craig.

OK,

I know what the problem is now - the post happens but the confirmation page never loads. Looks like an intermittent problem that needs looking at IMHO......

Looks like you are the only person this happens to though... so i doubt it's anything on the server side.

It was happening to me yesterday too. It's all gone now.

EDIT: actually not the same problem...mine was just a general sluggishness that I attributed to my ISP

I suspect that NTL was sucking really badly this morning -- both Peter and I had trouble with the BBS (missing images/stylesheets, long delays, timeouts) from our respective homes this morning, but it was fine once I'd got into the office.

Apart from that, I've never seen the confirmation page fail to load.

Greetings!

I can confirm that it has been slow today / recently for posting.
