Bay area mini meet, Saturday

Bay area mini meet, Saturday - 09/11/2004 13:06

(second attempt to post, no idea where the first one ended up!)

Is anyone up for drinks/lunch/dinner/gossip somewhere in the Bay area on Saturday (13th)? Details deliberately vague at this point - let's see what works.

Damn! I'll be leaving town Friday, unless the coming rains close the pass up in Truckee. Hope you gents have fun... have a whiskey in my name!

Count me in. Name the place and time.

I suspect I'll be able to make something. I'd offer to bbq again, but the weather hasn't been cooperating and I'll have spent the day moving into my new house. Anywhere in the bay area is fine with me. Where abouts will you be?

I'm tentatively in, all depends on when/where.

OK, so what are the location preferences? I'm staying in Santa Clara but I don't mind driving to where ever. There are some nice places in San Jose..

Looks like you're building up a big bucketful of maybes.
At the risk of not sounding too noncommital ("have I not been misinformed?")
I am tentatively in.

(I was thinking of going to the new Warren Miller film, but this sounds more fun.)

I think I mentioned this last time, but how about Benihana?

Anywhere is good though. Although, I'd like to stay clear of SF/Oakland/etc.

Sounds good to me, anyone else?

Re: Bay area mini meet, Saturday - 11/11/2004 12:34

I would suggest Gordon Biersch in Downtown San Jose.
Great atmosphere, great food and great beer

I'm trying to see about changing my plans to be able to attend the meet.

OK, let's put it to the vote..

Re: Bay area mini meet, Saturday - 11/11/2004 15:52

Also, apropos to your comments in the concurrent "smoking ban" thread, I believe that Gordon Biersch has an outdoor patio where you can fire up your cancer sticks if need be.
Though it will still be raining a bit on Saturday, so it's hard to say whether they will be seating there or not.

I just voted... maybe - Gordon Biersch, SJ... There is free public parking right across the street for show-and-tell... (not that I have anything new to show)

Thanks, but I don't smoke.

So let's go with Gordon Biersch, this Saturday, 6pm for dinner. If anyone wants to get together earlier for chatting/drinking/not smoking then that would be good too.

If we can get some more definite numbers I'll book a table.

Right, so I'm in.

GB in SJ is great. If the lots across the street are full, there's more parking in the 4th St. garage, across from the new library.

Sorry, didn't mean to imply one way or the other.
I just simply couldn't remember if you smoked or not.
The "smoking patio" comment was intended just to be an FYI.
Though now that I think about it, I don't recall too much smoking at the Empeg-related events I've attended. I just thought I remembered some but I couldn't remember who.

Re: Bay area mini meet, Saturday - 13/11/2004 16:38

No idea who's coming, so I booked a table for 10 at 6:15 (under the name Voisey) which seems a fairly safe guestimate. Meet up outside around 6.

Rob

PS Whatever happened to 15% gratuities? It's all 18/19% which frankly seems a bit high unless the service was incredible.

Arg, I'm gonna have to cancel this time. Sorry guys! Next time. Somebody take pictures for me.

Re: Bay area mini meet, Saturday - 14/11/2004 03:42

I was going to post some pictures here with captions, but I couldn't figure out how.

I used to just attach the image, and then edit the post to inline the attachment with an image tag. But that doesn't seem to be working for me any more.

I guess the pictures will wait until my BBcode Fu returns.
What am I doing wrong here?

Just got home and man, I'm stuffed. Good time. It was just 4 of us. For a bit Rob and I thought it would be the smallest empeg meet ever with just the two of us.

Hope to see you next time, Tony.

You need to paste the link to the actual image, not the attachment script. Click the "Attachment" link and use the actual URL to the image.

Re: Bay area mini meet, Saturday - 14/11/2004 04:38

The Empeg Mafia convened at a local speakeasy.
Deals were struck, veiled threats were made, and the town was divided between the mobsters in attendance. You talkin' to me?

Could this be a new secret gadget? I'll never tell....

The motley crew. Jim Bob, Bobby Ray, and Billy Jack.

Or is it Jimmy the Snitch, Frankie the Squealer, and Machine Gun Freddy?

Where was Tony the Enforcer? No FAQin' idea. He didn't show his mug.
Maybe somebody needs to have a "conversation" with him....

Looks like a Nokia 6230 and a car park ticket to me, so I doubt there's much to tell.

We have a winner!
That was just my feeble attempt to (a) stir up silly rumors, and (b) make Tony jealous and think he had missed out on something new and exciting.
I just worked with what I had available.

Of course, the real secret stuff I wasn't allowed to photograph.

I get the feeling Tony has never missed out on anything cool and exciting, he is on the beta team after all.

Well, if your new employer tasks you with something new and cool to test, you know where to find me.

I'd be just as elated to get something new and cool from his old employer!
