Blue faceplates won't appear on the store as a regular part - they're being handled by support, so send them an email ([email protected]). They're not back from manufacture yet so I would go ahead and order your tuner separately.

The empeg store doesn't send automatic confirmations - if the order completed and displayed your electronic receipt, we have your order. It won't get processed until Monday now.

Curious, notice the difference between From:(s) in both emails.

OK, thanks Rob. That's put my mind at rest. It just seemed a bit odd that I didn't get one, seeing as it's common practice when ordering on the net to get a confirmation email.

Thanks to everyone else who's posted their experiences. Looks like the European eStore works differently to the US eStore.

Well Rob has a personal hand in the running of the International store so it's pretty unlikely . The main problem seems to be gettng stock, especially out of the US.

To follow up on this, tuners are shipping today as expected. Because of the backlog, though, I think it could take as long as the end of this week before we have sent all of the Mk.1 upgrade and empeg store tuners.

Be assured that our dispatcher is working very hard to minimise the delay.

You'll get a tracking number when it ships. Sorry the communication isn't ideal, but we have one part timer running the store (which is not an official SONICblue service) and he's very rushed with shipping tuners right now.

As sonic blue now stops the rio car product i think it'll also stop the tuner-production. so my question is: how many tuner modules will be available and will everyone who ownes a mk2 be able to get one?

Re: Tuner Availability - 26/09/2001 07:15

I've now talked to some other people and my advice is:

If you want one, or will want one at some point, get it now. There should be enough to cover almost all of the mk2s shipped to date, but when these are gone it might get messy to get more made as the main product is EOL (eg, might have to collect pre-orders to make a batch, etc).

I ve got a question .

I want to order a Tuner From France.
I think it's gonna be possible.

My question is about the car rack.

Is it delivered with the wires or is it a nude rack only and must make myself connectings.

however would'nt be able to afford a Sled at the moment as NZ has a SHOCKING exchange rate :)

Re: Tuner Availability - 27/09/2001 04:38

Sleds are currently in stock, and we have a pile of metalwork awaiting looms (which are on their way). I suspect that we'd post when sleds were getting low.

www.royalmail.co.uk and go to track & trace - but international recorded delivery has very little tracking information. It's really just regular mail with proof of delivery.

Re: Tuner Availability - 27/09/2001 15:59

Got mine Tuesday. Installed it Wednesday (took all of 5 minutes). Decodes FM great even with a low signal (1 - 2 bars). Doesn't seem to get much on AM though. Isn't anyone transmitting on AM anymore in the UK? Ordered a Rio remote too since 'the announcement'. I just wish they'd left the Stun/Kill option on it .

Re: Tuner Availability - 28/09/2001 00:52

Yes, 693/909 (5 live) in the UK should be ok. Note that if you have a powered antenna (VW/Audi bee-sting, for example) then you will get *nothing* on AM without an antenna power adaptor - this is the case in my new beetle.

Re: Tuner Availability - 28/09/2001 03:10

My tuner works great, too. I am a little surprised by the bad quality of the sound (even if there is full signal strength), but that might be due to the fact that I am not used to radio anymore. I will have to test against my Kenwood unit that I was using before.

The Empeg has not quite the same reception as my Kenwood, while the Kenwood was able to decode (both the music and the RDS) of stations with a low signal strength, the Empeg gets into a little bit of trouble.

However, this was just a few minutes of testing and weather conditions might have been non-ideal for such a test. :) I will use the unit some more next week (especially on the highway) and try to see how well it performs there.

AM worked fine on mine, about 5 strong signals ( 5 live, Virgin, and a few local stations ), even parked alongside the house.

Re: Tuner Availability - 28/09/2001 07:58

Thanks for the replies guys. I've got a BMW with the antenna in the rear window. Don't know if it has an amp on it. It picks up FM fine so I don't think that this is the problem. I did manage to get Virgin but it was very faint & didn't show up on the signal strength meter at all. Could there be something wrong with the AM part of the circuit in the Tuner? I've been round all the frequencies several times but it's always the same. I do get a medium strength signal right at the bottom end of the range but it's just noise. The car's in for it's MOT until tomorrow so I can't fiddle until then.

Re: Tuner Availability - 28/09/2001 08:54

It's a powered antenna. My beetle picked up FM fine without power, but no AM; see:

http://www.autotoys.com/New_Tech/Misc_Info/bmwant/body_bmwant.htm

...it appears that there is a white antenna power wire in the BMW harness.

Re: Tuner Availability - 28/09/2001 11:31

aha!!!... Thanks Hugo. I'll have a look at this when I get the car back tomorrow. I guess the antenna is tuned more for the shorter wavelengths of FM than the longer wavelengths of AM, which is why it picks up FM reasonably well. Or am I talking complete b*ll*cks?

Re: Tuner Availability - 29/09/2001 07:37

OK, I got the car back from having new rear suspension bushes fitted & a new MOT. I've added the Tuner extension cable and joined the Blue flying lead to the White on the BMW loom and I can now receive AM fine. FM is also improved. Since your last reply I've taken another look at the installation instructions and it does mention that AM reception can be particularly affected where you have an antenna amp which doesn't have any power going to it. s'pose I shouldn't have been in such a hurry to get it fitted. Classic case of RTFM.

thanks again...

Re: Tuner Availability - 29/09/2001 14:14

For anyone with poor reception you might want to try adding an amplifier if your car doesnt have one. I live in a pretty bad area for most stations but bought a little booster from Maplin (£7.99) - reception is a lot better and im able to pick up a lot more stations. Very simple to fit. Just a small pen-sized unit that plugs in between your tuner module and the antenna cable, and connects to the tuner's power feed.
