Power Supply - 19 VDC OK? - 25/01/2002 18:42
I have a WinBook PS that I'd like to use as a second PS for my empeg. It is listed at 19volts DC. I know the Empeg spec says 6 to 18, but is 1 little volt extra going to void my warranty and/or cause any damage? Or will the songs just play faster ?

For what its worth, you can get power supplies that are in spec for 5 or 6 dollars.

It should work ok; things start to get dodgy above about 20v.
The voltage doesn't affect the speed of the unit!

Thanks Hugo - I was only kidding about the songs playing faster. :-)

Heat shouldn't be an issue. The main PSUs in the empeg are switch-mode, and so generally run totally cool anyway (they're 90-95% efficient) - there are a couple of linear PSUs for analogue circuitry, but these are very low current and so don't dissipate a lot of heat.
