Joystick Faceplate? - 28/01/2002 03:54

Hey,

Has anyone thought about building a faceplate-button replacement? I was thinking how cool a short four-way clicking joystick would be. Instead of fishing for the buttons, you could just tap the stick in the appropriate direction. WIth some interface work, you could do even more cool stuff (rotation, click, etc), but a simple mechanical switch replacement would work just fine.

THoughts?

Been done. IIRC in a Boxster - try searching the installation forum, it wasn't that long ago...

I wonder if a Playstation direction-pad might not be cannibilized and retrofitted onto the empeg? For that matter, I can easily imagine CruzThs making a faceplate that looks remarkably like a playstation gamepad, with a "direction pad" on the left and another "directionpad" lookalike on the right. :-D I can see Loren with one of these...

I wonder if Sony would sponsor me then.... haha.

The analog control sticks would make a nice little joystick controller.

Well, if you get the playstation "skin" on the empeg, you'd also have to paint your car black, with sleek looking lines resembling the ps2. You'll have to get vinyl stickers resembling the ps2 ports on the back of your civic.. etc. ;-D you'll be the rolling playstation car.
