ya I want to try doing that.. I figure if I mess up the worst is Ill have to buy a new board.. so just preparing for damage!

Yes you can buy a new board, at least, I did.
It costs roughly 100UKP but you need to contact Rob or David to get a firm quote.
And, no, I didn't have a failed backlit button hack.

Display boards are very
rare things!
So long as you check your soldering afterwards and make sure the connector is in properly then it should be okay. Practice on some junk PCBs before hand if you're not confident!
Or see if Mark Lord is still doing mods for people
