This made me laugh till it hurt.

But then again, I'm pretty easily amused.

Am I the only one who thinks that this particular child may actually need psychiatric help? I mean, that thing on the bottom right scares me. Isn't that the type of thing that kid from the Sixth Sense drew?

That looks like a bad copy. The guy who wrote that page also wrote a lot more funny/brutal stuff. Here's the real site.

Brutal, yes. Funny? Only if you've got an under-developed sense of humour. Really... it's about as funny as walking 5 miles through a snowstorm wearing nothing but underwear.

I'm with you - I hadn't laughed in years like the way I did reading the comments on those kids pics.. I was crying with laughter... Kids are great, but their art really sucks!

That was good. Thanks for the laugh.

Now that is funny! I just about ended myself, which got me some amused looks here in the office

I think I'm with you genixia. I didn't find it all that funny. the stuff in grey text was kinda humorous, but the rest was some angry person really reaching.

Man, with this and Homestar Runner, I think I should become a comedian! It's obvious that you don't need to be funny at all to make it!

Re: I am better than your kids - 29/10/2002 09:00

As painful as explaining why things are funny is....

It's not really the comments themselves that is funny. It's more the concept that this character finds it necessary to excoriate the drawings of children. I mean, it wouldn't work if the comments themselves weren't at least somewhat funny, but it's the character's attitude that's the funny part.

For a more popular example, look at The Mary Tyler Moore Show. Very seldom did Ted do or say something funny. It was his attitude towards the rest of the world that was funny.

Certainly, this sort of stuff is less conventionally funny, but, you know what? I'm tired of knock-knock jokes.

Remind me never to watch Mr. Show with you.

'Mr Angry' as a humorous charactor has been done before - and like most humo[u]r, subtlety and timing is essential to make it work. An endless rant or tirade by itself is not very funny.

The most humoro[u]s aspect of this guy's site is the fact that people actually stop to read any of it.

As for the charactor being funny?

"I dooo not belieeeve it."

I dunno but it reminds me of my current favorite bumper sticker:

I see dumb people.

I gotta get one of those!

PS Not directed at you, just reminds me of the line...

Re: I am better than your kids - 29/10/2002 10:49

But it's not Mr. Angry. It's Mr. I'm-So-Insecure-I-Feel-The-Need-To-Pick-On-Kids. And more.

But if you don't find it funny, that's fine.

Argh, they can't even get the bumper sticker right. It's supposed to be "I see stupid people".

See, the gag is: Haley Joel Osment, the child actor who played the "I See Dead People" kid in "The Sixth Sense", also played the part of Forrest Gump's son in "Forrest Gump". And the big line from Forrest Gump was "Stupid is as stupid does".

So you see, if it's "I see dumb people", it doesn't work, it has to be "I see stupid people" in order for it to be truly clever.

It's like one vendor who sells T-shirts at the conventions I attend. They put characters and famous lines from movies on the t-shirts, but they get the lines wrong. For instance, they sell one of the limbless Black Knight with the caption "I'll bite your kneecaps off!". If it's not the right line, then it's not funny, it's just sad.

Re: I am better than your kids - 29/10/2002 11:28

Ok, so I might get totally hammered on this one, but I always here people say: "I'm not dead yet," but when I watch the Holy Grail, the characters always say "I'm not dead." Now maybe I'm just missing something, but I've never heard the "yet" part, and that's the way everyone I've ever heard quotes it. So am I going crazy or is everyone just quoting the movie wrong?

Re: I am better than your kids - 29/10/2002 11:35

Exactly, I'm with you.

It's like in Casablanca, Bogart never exactly says "Play it again, Sam". And in Treasure of the Sierra Madre, the bandito never exactly says "We don't need no steenking badges". The actual lines are slightly different from the oft-quoted ones.

I dunno, I think it has a better ring to it with "dumb" instead of "stupid"... That's just my $0.02... Of course I have never seen FG, but if I did, it might be better they way you explain it...

Great flick, definitely worth the rental.

Re: I am better than your kids - 29/10/2002 14:04

I think you misunderstand me. I understand why that page is funny, I just don't think it succeeds. I mean, how easy is it to write some stupid crap about kids drawings? Sure, I may have chuckled once, maybe twice, but I can't possibly imagine it bringing anyone to tears (except maybe the children who drew the pictures).

So what I meant was, since that page really didn't take any imagination or effort to create, I say it's probably pretty easy to entertain people, judging by people's reactions to it.

Oh, and Mr Show is damn funny. I've watched the whole DVD set with a friend of mine. I think some of it is misses, but mostly it's hits.

One last thing. As long as I'm debating with people what is funny and what isn't, could someone tell me what the f*ing hell was so funny about the SNL cheerleader sketches. Hell, tell me what's funny about any single thing that Molly Shannon does. Please! I've been racking my brain over this!

Re: I am better than your kids - 29/10/2002 14:27

AFAICT, there has been very little funny about SNL since about '94 or '95.

Makes you long for the days of the Whiiiinerrrrrrrssss.

Edit: Oh, and I thought IABTYK was funny, but not fall-on-the-floor funny.
