Will the Empeg fit? 2010 Prius - 13/01/2009 17:20

It's really early but I'm wonder if the Empeg will fit in here:

It looks wide enough at least at the top. We'll have to wait for more detailed specs, but I'm excited to try!

Here is a wide angle shot:

Not seeing any dash kits for that dashboard style. frown

Keep looking, though, surely you're not the only one who wants to put an aftermarket radio in one.

The prior style of Prius dash had a nice little pocket under the factory stereo that you could put a player into. This doesn't seem to have one. frown

It looks like a simple enough shape/contour that one can probably make (or have made) a custom panel quite easily. Depending on what it's like on the inside you may be able to mount the empeg (or other or additional DIN unit) without internal mods. Otherwise It may not be too difficult to make a bracket either.

The good thing, from looking at those pictures, is that the stereo seems to be isolated, at least from a UI perspective. This would be a PITA if the environmental or other controls were part of the same control layout.

I think it's cool that car itself has a power button smile

Yea, that's where my Empeg calls home right now! This is going to be much more of challenge.

The 2nd gen Prius also had a radio, that physically looked separate from the rest of the sysytem, was in fact not. A pass thru cable is required if you want to remove the factory radio. Hopefully this isn't the same.

Even if that's the case, that problem usually gets solved by aftermarket companies quickly enough.

Mmm.. it might still be there on this one, too. Those four button switches under the top head unit look like they're just wasting space. One might be able to move two of them to each side, in line with the other buttons, freeing up the middle cavity area for an empeg again.

Cheers

Stupid question: so where does the car tell you how fast it's going?

Less stupid question: do they have some kind of serious iPod support (versus the lame "six CD changer emulation" that I'm stuck with in my Audi)?

I far as I can tell, no iPod integration other than a aux-input. There is a I hear an option for a USB port. As to what that means I have no idea.

and the stupid answer is...

Go Fast indicators are not needed, if the auto can't exceed the speed limit. wink

That'd be another excuse for Woz to use when caught at 100 in his. Somehow he appeared to convince the last judge that he was used to km/h and so thought he was only going 60...
