Southern US Tornados - 18/04/2011 12:24

I have just been reading about a spate of tornados in the southern US, including one that hit Raleigh NC - I think that is where Bitt is? Was anyone here affected?

There was a big one that passed a mile or two away from me. Fortunately, no damage here. There was some small-to-medium-size hail, and I spent about 30 minutes huddled in the bathroom with the wife and cats, just in case, but came through without even losing power.

Good to hear you are OK, Youtube footage showed some massive devastation.

Thanks. A handful of people in town died, including three young brothers in a trailer park. Very sad.

This is the first image I've been able to find of the high-tension power line transmission tower that was brought down by the tornado.

Glad to hear you're okay, Bitt. Sounds like it's been crazy there. My best friend and his wife now live in the area, along with my wife's extended family. They're all doing fine, fortunately. My friend's wife works at the children's museum, was there that day, and she says a tornado hit one block from her building. My friend said he stood on their balcony briefly, and described the sound as "God throwing a million baking sheets on the ground."

Yep. That museum is right by where the worst of it seemed to hit (other than the transmission tower). Of course, the poor section of town, and the two "historically black" universities. One of them cancelled the rest of the semester of classes. (There was only a week and a half left.)
