Is there an mp3 player out there that has implemented synchronized lyrics (both editing the tag, and viewing lyrics during play), using the SYLT frame in ID3V2?

When you say "an MP3 player out there", do you mean a stand-alone player like the empeg, or do you mean a piece of software running on a PC?

If the former, no, if the latter, I'm sure there is but I don't know any specific ones.

Latter, a software mp3 player.

I just wanted to see how the synchronized lyrics worked. I found a couple which used .LRC files. But that's not the standard followed by ID3V2. So was wondering if any player actually has implemented the ID3V2 specs.

Thanks,

There's gotta be one somewhere, right? Anyone know?

Try Soritong. It supports sync'd lyrics, and, while it doesn't explicitly say that it uses SYLT, it looks like it does.

Thanks. I checked out Soritong. It has a decent editor to add lyrics and timecodes, and a console that lets you view lyrics karaoke style. And the lyrics go into the mp3 file. They claim that it goes as part of the ID3 tag, but I don't know if they are using the SYLT frame or not (I edited the file and searched for SYLT and didnt find anything).

I love Musicmatch. I hope they implement synchronized lyrics on their player soon (isn't there a Musicmatch employee who is a regular on this board?).

Synchronized lyrics, huh? I'll put it in the Musicmatch enhancement database. Not sure if it would be a very high priority, though. Don't think enough people would use it.

Thanks.

I am a big lyrics freak. Spent nights tagging all my mp3s with lyrics. (And I dont mind the effort involved in changing those to add time codes.) Now if only I could see them karoke style (first in a software mp3 player, then in my empeg)..

Does this page help?

I think it would be great to see a lyrics viewer implemented for the empeg.

Although I haven't used this plugin, it sounds like it just displays the lyrics, but doesn't actually synchronize them as we were discussing earlier.

MusicMatch has the ability to display the lyrics as well. It's part of the ID3v2 tag. You can just paste them into the tag editor. Then, if you want to view them, you can either edit the tag again and select the Lyrics tab or open the Now Playing window and clicking the Online button. When you click the online button, this tells the player you're "offline", and it then displays all the tag info (including lyrics) in the now playing window.

Now, as for the SYLT, I'll have to look into that...

Just thought I'd say that I would love a syncronized lyrics in Musicmatch. Been using it for 4 years now and really like everything they have done to it in the years. This would be anouther great addition.
