Support and Parts ordering - 10/05/2007 07:22

Hi everybody.

It's been a while since my empeg HDD died and I had no time to worry about.
Now it lacks me to hear all my mp3 stuff in the car !!! and I miss the pang game.

I tried to change the HDD (was doing strange sounds ) and with the new one (Fujitsu) des not ake any noise (bad IDE cable) the main plastic on the main board is broken.
I had the famous 'no hard disk found' message and after I tried to fix by adding a new HDD nothing (no starting sequence ..)

The riocar is powerd and the main led (on the right ) is blinking so I think the empeg is still alive.

Is the Support (in NL) still available ?
I'd like to know if it's still possible to order parts from Eutronix ?

I'll post some pix to show the real problem

I need My Empeg Back

Click on the "Repairs" link up there at the top.

To summarise: Rob's still doing support, but he's in Cambridge, UK, rather than Holland. He's got a day job now, so he's doing repairs as and when he can find the time. Contact him (see the link) for more help.

Stu at Eutronix is also doing some support. Again, his details are at the above link (or you can click on the Eutronix link).

Is the cable broken, or is there a problem with the header pins on the main board itself?

Stu (Eutronix) has new cables. But if the header pins have a problem, then you'll need to have somebody (Rob, Stu, ...) repair it.

This is only a cable problem.

No worry on the mainboard (huffffff)
So, just have to wait new cable...

but no message on display, just the led blinking (???)

That is nearly always due to a blown fuse (or two) on the mainboard.
There are three tiny surface-mount fuses around where the display cable
connects to the mainboard. These get blown when people reconnect
the display cable in the wrong position (like I did, once), but sometimes
also just blow on their own.

Not hard to replace if you can solder electronics, or if you know somebody
(at work?) who can do it. RobS, Stu and myself all have the fuses.

thanks for the answer Mark !!

Ah that is on the way i don't like.

No soldering abilities (for such sensible stuff), but how to identify the blown fuse ?

I think I'll have to wait but send the beast to Rob .......Uk isn't far from France.
But I'm afraid that shipping an d repair cost will be more than to buy another Riocar .

You can only indentify blown ones with a multimeter or ohm meter. If you have access to one, just check each one. You should get a reading of close to 0 ohms. Any that don't give you a reading like that are probably blown and need replacing.

As for repair and shipping costs, I doubt even if you shipped it to Mark or me that you would come close to the cost of a replacement unit. The work should only take about 10 - 15 minutes including break down and reassembly.

Good luck,
Stu

Yeah, the repair is very quick and easy, and the fuses cost nothing.
I know that air mail from me (Canada) to you (France) costs
about CDN$40 (EU25 ?), but I don't know about from you to me.

It should be about the same for sending it to RobS in Cambridge.

Re: Support and Parts ordering - 17/05/2007 11:27

Thanks both of you for helping !!

Arf just send mail to Rob asking for an IDE cable.
I expected receive one and plug the all stuff and find my empeg back :-(

So I will check with Rob if he's got time to do the repair (I noticed that it lacks soldering iron for the IDE header pins so there is more work than expected).

If he has no time I will go with you, but it scares me to send the beast to other side of the world (it will take long time, remember Mark the bottle took its time).

Looks like my photo? :P

In my post, Mark said that looked perfectly ok. Is that needing soldered?

Took you pix to illustrate my soldering problem but it's bad example.

don't be confused, I delete it from of my post.

No, don't delete it. It would be useful to know if this does indeed need repaired.

I am beginning to start support activities again (it's been a while). I have to clear a backlog, and I do read messages that are sent: let me try to get my act together again and I should be able to help people on a regular basis again sometime soon.
