After waiting about 45 seconds, the unit did finally power down by itself.

That's the known bug in Beta 13. Hopefully it will be corrected on the next software release.

It's funny how this problem NEVER happened in my previous vehicle, though but seems to do it constantly in the new car.

Because you probably got the new car around the same time Beta 13 came out.
