Unfortunately it comes with aircon, which is such a waste of space/weight/power/money in this country

Are you sure? With memories of how damn hot last summer was, I specifically bought my car with aircon. Maybe it wasn't so bad in Scotland.

And, yeah, it's good for demisting the windscreen, although the heated windscreen helps.
