Reading your description of having problems with the fragility of burl is actually what prompted me to start trying to find a way to make wooden fascias that were durable enough to actually be used. According to all of the information I can find, stabilized wood products end up being more akin to plastic, as far as their physical properties. Hopefully that will let this happen.
