That's not very long. Round here roofs tend to be made of slate, the same stuff that Wales is largely made of. Wales has been left outdoors in some truly appalling weather conditions for a lot more than 10 years and hasn't failed yet.

Sounds like you could save a lot of money on shingles by giving them a protective covering of solar panels.
