Anyone have any suggestions, perhaps a brand name, of a quiet power supply for my computer? The one that came with my case a while back is just a little too loud for me...

QuietPC, amongst others, seem to sell Q Technologies power supplies. Not that I can find a presence for them online by themselves.

Thanks. It's a great starting point.

Two months ago I bought a Q Technology PSU.
Man, that was a BAD psu! Not bad in the sense of not providing stable power, but because of the NOISE. I swear, it made MORE noise than my original chieftec PSU that came with the case. And not just a little bit more, it was VERY noticable.
So I returned it. I don't know of this was a typical example of a Q technology PSU, but it sure as hell didn't leave a good impression.

So for now I'm still working with my chieftec psu (which is pretty quiet by itself really)

That Vantec PSU doesn't look half bad, it's an option for me too. That or an Enermax PSU. What I like especially about the Enermax PSU's is that they have a Fan Speed Adjustable Knob on the back.
They're supposed to be *very* quiet. Then again, so were the Q-technology's

I boughtt an Enermax 430W unit for my HTPC last year - and have spent a few hours tryng to make it more quiet. It certainly is not the most quiet PSU I've ever had. Reliable, yes. Powerful, yes. Well built, yes. Quiet, not really. The Directron.com forum boards suggest that I'm not the only one to find this, but others think that they are quiet. Go figure. I'm guessing that it depends on how much juice you're trying to pull out of it.

Ok, so the Enermax is also out of the picture. Thanks for telling me. From the sounds of it this would be the Q technology psu all over again.

That leaves only the Vantec unit I guess. Anybody got any experience with those?

Not likely. They were just announced on Vantec's site last week. For the Q Technology supplies, I haven't made up my mind about those. But, the reviews I'm reading on the Vantec supplies by other sites are looking very good. One of them rated the Vantec 520W at 32dBA under load when not installed in a case.

That said, I think that when I am ready, I will begin with that power supply. But this will by no means be very soon. I have other things that need attention first.

If you're interested, you can find the reviews I read about the Vantec supplies linked to from this page on their site.

Thanks, I'll check those out !
I'll think I'll do a google search on it too. Maybe I can come up with some more reviews.
