A close inspection of that file reveals that its grayscales are not the same as the limited colors available on the empeg screen. This will make some of the gray shades in the anti-aliased sections look different when you get it into the player.

Just so you know ahead of time.

Tom, does the Riocar site know how to refuse the animated gifs based on color depth, too?

yah i actually noticed it looks better on the player.. how can i figure out which of the greyscales the empeg supports? So it is an exact match and so i don't get rejected when i do one that i actually want up on the riocar site.. also i have no problem posting the psd of them for assistance sake either.

Draw a picture in logoeditor using each of the four colors. Copy that image to the clipboard and paste it into your image-editing software as a new image.

Your image-editing software should have the ability to create a palette based on the colors in this new image. If you can't create a palette of four colors, create one with 16 colors where 13 of the colors are just black.

Then use this palette for all of your color reduction work.

No, because it dosen't use them. My early hack for animated logos did, alongside the raw for download. But now, the site only accepts .raw files, and assumes that they came from Jemplode. Since that takes care of the color issue, I don't have to worry about it on the site.

Hey Rockstar, thanks
That was pretty cool. I like the exit wound.
It kind of reminds me of South Park and Kenny

My entry.... but it doesn' t say "HiJAck" so I'm already disqualified!

I'm not much of an animator. This was done with Microsoft Paint!

Alright, alright, I know I am a bit late to the whole animation contest thing,
but here's my creation, I know it's personalized, so none of you will probably use it, but it works for me.
and if you have an accord, feel free to use frames from it...

The GIF image you posted here to the BBS has too many shades of gray for the empeg display. Those will be posterized down to just two shades of gray when you attempt to put it into the animation editor.

I figured as much, but it looks great on the empeg, so that good for me,
btw....
is there a way in photoshop to set the "usable" colors
So that only the appropriate colors are use when dawing?
I just can't seem to get that figured out....

I don't know how to do it in photoshop. I think that program does an awful job of handling palletized images. I use Paint Shop Pro which allows you to create your own palette from scratch. Values for the palette are in the FAQ.

you can make your own pallete in photoshop as well, from scratch.. what i am trying to figure out is how to get photoshop to allow me to let it interpret the pallette and adjust the images.
