Ok, I figure that since the community here has been nice enough to help fund my trip, I'll ask for suggestions on what to do.

Right now, I am flying to New York to meet up with Rob R. From there, the big trip over the ocean into the UK, arriving the morning of the 7th. We are planning on heading up to Cambridge, then heading down to the meet.

Return trip will be getting me home by the 23rd.

Beyond Cambridge and the meet, I have no specific plans. One desire of mine is to rent a motorcycle in Germany and ride on the autobahn. My only past experience in Europe has been seeing the Scottish highlands, and London.

So, suggestions on things to do and places to go?

Amsterdam?

Hmm, not sure about the insurance rules... And anyway, my Triumph Thunderbird is not the right bike for the 'ban, as the seating position is far too upright.

If you can spend some more time in the UK then I'd say maybe head up to the Lake District, it's one of my favorites. Other than that I say give Edinburgh a spin.

Rent that moto in Switzerland and ride the alps instead, or better yet, ride it down to Switzerland and do both!

If you feel like venturing farther south, I can highly recommend Istanbul. After all, at least half of it is in Europe.

Rent the bike in germany and go down to Switzerland. It's cheeper, i think.
I can look up prices and insurance for american riders.
What kind of bike do you prefer?

You can also sleep at my apartment on the way south, if you like.

That would be appreciated if you could check. Bike wise, I like the naked street bikes, like the Suzuki Bandit, the BMWs, etc... Debating what engine size I want to rent. 600 is what I own, and is fine for mountain riding.

The Swiss alps is a great suggestion. Most of my trip will probably be wandering around, and finding a place to stay when needed. I leave out of Frankfurt on the 23rd.
