hey,
I just hooked up my beat tonight into my car. I've had my highs hooked up for about a week. Everything was working ok, then after i started my car a few times i noticed that i didn't have a fader control, and i did have one right after i hooked up the beat. I check the hijack menu to see which power setting the deck was on, and it was on ac. I switched it to dc and got my fader back.
I guess i'm wondering how or why this changed itself. I think i'm running hijack 269. with beta 11 mark2a

You may have accidentally told Hijack to "Force AC mode" without knowing it, perhaps by making the wrong selection while browsing in its menus.

If not, then you might have a faulty sensor switch on the AC adapter input. click here.

Thanks, I'm 100% sure i didn't change it within the hijack menus. I almost never use the hijack menus, only sometimes to check the temp of the deck. This problem hasn't repeated itself yet. And i've been driving around all night long. Thanks for the reply.

I don't have time to dig up the threads now, but this happened to me several times in the past, on my old Mk2 and then on my current Mk2a. Interestingly enough, it's happened within the last two days, and it isn't showing any signs of going away.

Basically, if it's not the Hijack settings that Tony Fabris mentioned, then what's probably happened is the leaf switch inside the AC adaptor receptacle is acting up. The player uses a tiny little metal leaf switch in there to determine whether you're on home or car power. I personally think that's a design flaw, but I guess it was the most convenient mechanism they had to determine power source, and I guess they had no idea these switches would be so tempermental. Obviously it hasn't happened to everyone, but I've seen at least 4 or 5 others who've run across this at one time or another.

I don't care about fader/dimmer since I never really use them, but it's kinda frustrating to have only the one volume setting, and the worst part is that the Empeg doesn't power down when you turn the engine off. If this doesn't show signs of clearing up, I might be sending my Empeg on a little voyage. Unless someone here in the U.S. knows how to fix this problem.

The same thing as David would do... Desolder the plug and solder in a replacement plug. If you're not comfortably with this, then the trip is necessary.

Yeah I wouldn't trust myself with doing the soldering. I'm going to poke around the receptacle with a nail punch and see if I can't somehow get it back into working order the ghetto way.

I had that problem as well... sent it to empeg and it ended up being a faulty diode if I remember correctly.... nothing to do with the power plug... might wanna make absolutely sure it's the power plug thingie before ya go whipin out a soldering iron

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. Hopefully this just magically corrects itself again. I think I've used up all of my "free trips to Empeg-land" tickets already.
