The problem is, on Windows at least, portrait isn't as nice to use as landscape. This is because the ClearType font smoothing relies on knowing which order your red, blue and green sub-pixels come in. Once you rotate to portrait your smoothed fonts go slightly fuzzy and you have to turn font smoothing off.

Of course, some people don't like font smoothing. So it wouldn't be a problem for them.
