Is there any easy way of getting LAN access to the empeg?
I know you can FTP, but it would be better if I could mount using NFS.
Ease of installation and use is the driving factor here.

Any bright ideas?

The easiest way to get file access to the empeg is by installing Mark Lord's Hijack kernel (link at the top of this page), which will give you FTP.

There is no NFS or Samba on the player to my knowledge, as they are memory hogs. Mark's got an amazing mini-implementation of an FTP daemon working right out of the kernel, and it's very lightweight.

Somebody managed to cram Samba into empeg (I think that involved compiling a custom kernel with SysV IPC enabled). However, since it *is* a memory hog as you noted, the question is what do we want to do with direct file access (I believe somebody wanted to attack *0 files with one of Win ID3 utilities, for some reason...)

If somebody is desperate for mounting empeg disks remotely, perhaps a ftp filesystem could be tried?
