What is this? Small icon that looks like a battery come on intermittantly during operation of the player when it's in the car.

This means that there was/is a power dip in the power being routed to the empeg.
During car start up this could be fairly normal, during regular use this could be a "bad thing" TM.

Do I detect the distinct possibility of the car player giving a voltage readout of the car's electrical system, erm, yeah, maybe
Is this really possible, does the player have an A-D convertor hooked up to the +12v line or is it fixed (hardware) voltage threshold detection?

LOL, well it's no biggie, more of an "if it can be done" kinda thing. It would probably help some people and satisfy the curiosity of others (me for one!).

If I were posting this over on the Wish List forum I'd ask for it to be (optionally) overlaid onto the 'Track' display somewhere.

Afraid not. Hugo says it is a simple potential divider here which means you can't tell what the voltage is. Only that it's dropped below the value set by the component values.
