Hey guys. Quick question. Or rather, a request. Is there a central repository or web page linking to all the add-on software for the empeg? I was just installing emptriv and preinit.d on mine and it was a royal pain in the butt to find the software. just doing a search on preinit.d doesn't help a whole lot, as there were no links to the software in any of the results I found.
Anyway, I'm rather new to the scene and as such, I KNOW there are bits o' software I'd love to install, but I don't even know they exist. (Like I know vnc exists, but I can't currently find it)
It would just be cool to have a page I could look at and go OOOH, that'd be cool. Let's install it.

Well, the riocar.org download section is supposed to be exactly what you want, but many developers (myself included) have been too lazy to add our apps to the list.
Since there seems to be a lot more interest in the 3rd party apps now, I just went and added some links to the download section and broke things down into categories for games, apps, etc. Hopefully we can actively maintain this and make it the one-stop resource you're wishing for. Anyone know of any programs/add-ons that aren't in there now?

OK, so far, installed Emptriv, Telnetd, Preinit.d, and VNC. Now all I need is vi and I'm set.

If you can live without vi (ie it isn't a religious issue ) and can settle for another small editor (with sort of emacsy commands) ae is easy to get working. The files needed can be found via this post.

I think that editor is great for managing my scripts and program config files. Thanks for posting it!

All I had to do was put the binary somewhere and make it executable (say with "chmod 755 ae") and put the "ae.rc" file in the "/etc/ae.rc" location. it must be named that, as well. Let us know if you still can't get it working.

Ctrl+X Ctrl+S - Write the current file.
Ctrl+X Ctrl+C - Save current file and exit.

Go read a book... grumble grumble grumble.....
OK fine... I was hoping for spoon-fed, but I guess I could actually use my brain once in a while.

Actually if you use the other config file provided and rename it ae.rc (or whatever) you will get more dos-like commands in the program.

With the version of ae.rc that was linked to, I think the save is
^ X^ W
If you do a more /etc/ae.rc it shows all available commands.

Hi.
Well, emacs commands are weird, I never got used to them. I use a variety of editors, but mostly vi on Unix machines or TextPad on Windows. I favor the later, BTW. If I needed to use emacs for some matter, I always used one of the graphical versions (with remote display if needed).
