OK. I'll get to the projector in general, but can I just say "HDTV. Holy Sh$t." It's awesome. It's one thing to hear about the specs, it's another thing to see an 8 foot wide projection of HDTV that looks better in every respect than my 36" Wega. That the image has enough resolution to look awesome at that size is pretty impressive. The HBO HD movies look almost like film (and I'm not even sure they're not downrez'ed) and the live events pretty much look like you're looking through a window at them. If only the HD TiVo would come out (I forgot how completely spoiled I was) -- I was watching Spiderman in HD on HBO and wanted to pause it. Uh.. Pause. Hmm... Nope.

As far as the projector itself, I really love it. The HS10 is an LCD projector and so comes with all the standard caveats of an LCD projector -- blacks are cinema black, shadow detail isn't awesome, contrast/brightness aren't great. And I can't say I wouldn't like a little bit better in every category, but for the price ($2350) it's just amazing. Not to mention the full 1080i support. I'm going to be getting a CC40R filter which is supposed to bring a lot more balance to the contrast/black/shadow detail issue. However, even stock it looks really really good.

And I must say, the homemade ceiling mount looks pretty cool too (based off of the specs from an avsforum person).

And this is all projecting on a bedsheet (screen arrives Friday). My wife was out of town and wasn't terribly happy that apparently I chose the most expensive bedsheet to staple to our wall. Whoops.

Three thumbs up to the HS10.

HBO has their own High def telecine equipment. So when you watch a widescreen movie on HBOhd, it's probably one that they scanned into 1080i themselves at full rez.

The thing is, your projector is doing some digital squishing of those images. It doesn't have 1080 lines of resolution itself, so it's doing some of its own downsampling to get the images onto the screen.

If only the HD TiVo would come out
Agreed. That might make me switch back to digital satellite.

I thought you got the same one as Tod did. It is my understanding that the LCD doesn't have that much resolution and therefore has to downsample a 1080i image to display it. Is that what you mean by "Support"?

My bad -- I wasn't clear there ... It does downsample to a maximum of 750 lines.

Send us a snap of your install. I'd like to see it. I think you have me beat on ease of installation. This beast weighs in at 150lbs but oh man does it toss a great picture!

Nice setup.

The empeg looks tiny compared to everything else! Even the XBox looks tiny

I know what you mean about missing the TiVo capabilities for HD. A few years ago I got a surprise bonus from work and I went out that night and bought the two toys I'd been lusting after - an HD receiver and a TiVo. I was very excited about the HD receiver and much less so about the TiVo. I figured the TiVo would be a more convenient and higher quality replacement for my VCR. Little did I know....

As much as I love the quality of HD I hardly ever watch it. The convenience of TiVo in my life outweighs the nice picture. The only things I watch in HD are the occasional sporting events.

Space around my TV is already at a huge premium, so don't have room to squish in an HD receiver. As it is, I have my TiVo standing on its side next to the TV, mostly due to the poor airflow in my rack. My TiVo stays nice and cool now, but the noise from it is annoying.

Part of me wants to put a bigger / quieter drive into the TiVo, while the rest of me knows that, hopefully in time for Christmas, I'll be able to swap out my current DirectTV/TiVo box for an HDTiVo. I have a $5 bet with a friend riding on whether TiVo actually ships before Christmas or not. I'm betting they do.
