Well, Blu-Ray does have a size advantage too. It stores 25GB single layer, 50GB double layer, where HD-DVD only had 15GB/30GB respectively. Sure HD-DVD came out with a 51GB triple layer disc done by squeezing an extra 2GB onto each layer but that sounds like a hack and adds complexity, price and potential unreliability/fragility.
