Yep. And it's mandated as part of the 802.11h spec to be able to use certain 5GHz channels shared with radar frequencies. An optional part of that spec includes the AP ability to broadcast to clients what channel it intends to switch to, avoiding the need for the client to scan.
How does one determine if indeed a given access point has the ability to monitor for interference and actually change channels?

My Apple AC Airport base stations (most recent generation tower style) apparently do not support the radar restricted 5Ghz channels, presumably also not including the interference monitoring and channel jumping stuff.

Does this channel changing WiFi spec only apply to the 5Ghz band?

Is the optional capability required to be present in both client and base station before the channel switching can occur?
